WEFACE Project – Arsi University Team has participated in Seminar, Training, and Educational Workshop organized by WEFACE -University of Gabes (Tunisia), and the Weihenstephan Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (Germany) on the theme ‘Food Technology’ with the frame of ‘‘Logistics and Food Supply Chain’’. The events were held during 27 October – 02 November 2024 and were organized in difeerent parts of the country that covered North to South Tunisia.
In total 11 participants attended from Arsi university that includes Five Bachelor of Science students (BSc)/Undergraduate (4 female and 1 male) as part of student- exchange-project component , four female academic staffs (lecturers), and two project staffs (Degefu Kebede & Dr. Meron Regu); all from departments of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and value chain management, and Food Science and Postharvest of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences of Arsi Univertsity.
The venues and field visits includes Research laboratory LRBMA in Gabes university , Hall technology Higher Institute of Applied Biology (ISBAM) Medenine Tunisia, Incubator Medenine, Visit of young promoter in the food industry in Medenine city, Visit to the “Gharbouz” Festival in Beni Khedache, Tomato Factory “Dessert Joy” El Hamma, “Zarzis super park” and sea food factory, training at Hall technology ISBAM Medenine for all exchange -students (Arsi University and USSEIN University), Olive oil farmers farm in Gabes, and Olive oil factory at Dejerba among others.
WEFACE (Women Empowerment in Food and Agriculture Cooperatives through Enabling Market Access) is ’Training and Job Creation’ (2023-2026)” action by the DAAD, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is a joint project within four countries: Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) from Germany, Arsi University from Ethiopia, Université du Sine Saloum El-Hâdj Ibrahima NIASS (USSEIN) from Senegal and University of Gabes from Tunisia. Ingeneral, the project training units focus on 4 major topics namely; Food Processing and Packaging, Logistics and Supply Chain, Women Empowerment and Food Product Development. Last year (2023) similar event was organized and hosted at Germany by the host of HSWT- Germany in 2023- Food Processing and Packaging; while the next year (2025) event will be hosted by USSEIN- Senegal with the theme of ‘‘Women Empowerment’’.
